According to information provided by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Tashkent, a taxi driver used the passenger's phone, which was left in his car, to request a loan and carry out a transfer of funds from her bank account.
In detailing the incident in the report released by the press service of the ministry, it is said that "a drunk woman stopped a taxi on one of the roads in Tashkent. There were two men in the car. She could not provide the exact address of her destination to the driver and instead gave him her phone, on which the location was indicated via GPS, before losing consciousness in the seat."
According to the message, the driver and the man who was with him, taking advantage of the fact that the woman was unconscious, used her banking application on the phone to obtain a loan of 12 million sums (approximately one thousand dollars) and then transferred the sum to their bank cards. When the woman regained consciousness, she discovered what had happened and contacted the police.
An official statement notes that the competent authorities detained two men, opened a criminal case against them, and referred them to court.
